Once I could build my own ATV I decided to go check the supply drops that were until then out of my reach. I just got to the location of the third one and so far, absolutely nothing. The game does not say that there is a time limit after which they despawn. That would be good information to have and it should then be automatically removed from the message list so that you don't keep going there. Since none of that information is available, I can only assume that the drop should still bethere and simply fell through the planet.
