Please rebalance cables & hoses, so that 1 unit covers a well-defined unit of distance (presuming ideal conditions with a straight connection).
I suggest 1 unit = 1m, as it is the most suitable metric unit for the purpose, and also happens to be resonably close to an imperial unit (1 yard).
(1 unit = 1m is to be preferred over 1 unit = 1 yard, not only because metric units are standard in space flight, but also because this allows for both a purely metric interpretation - namely "1 unit = 1m exact" - as well as a useful imperial interpretation - namely "1 unit = 1 yard, plus some intentional slack".)
