Steel Platform with rails (specifically, the flat one with rails on parallel sides) fails to connect grids. I had built a Platform grid with water pumps, and some ~40m away another Platform grid with solar cells, connecting them with (only) a single catwalk made from said platform grids, but the solar cell platform failed to properly connect, remaining isolated from the pump platform.
